Peoria Humane Society Student Collaboration

For one of my classes, two other students and I did user research and design work for the local humane society.

The Client

The Peoria Humane Society was an absolute pleasure to work with. Most of our contact was with the director, Kitty. She enabled us to do as much research as we did. She also helped guide us toward a final product that fits the PHS design and style.

My Process

For this project, we spent a long time doing research for the client. Everything I worked on included: user and company goals, a heuristic review, an interview with a stakeholder, interviews with previous donors, heat maps of their current website, and a competitive analysis. From all of this research, each group was tasked with coming up with an idea on how to increase donations sent to the humane society that was not just, “redo the website”. My team decided to create merchandise and create a system to help them sell it.

After pitching this idea to the director and having it approved, we began on merchandise designs. We made sure all of our patterns and concepts work on many different types of merchandise, but prioritized t-shirts. We also collaborated with A Cheep Tee, a local print shop in Peoria to handle the printing and distribution of the shirts.
